The Ultimate Christmas Cheeseboard
There’s nothing quite like a proper festive cheeseboard, but a really good one takes a bit of planning and preparation – so In A Pickle are delighted to bring you our ultimate guide to pairing our award-winning chutneys with fantastic local cheeses, plus a few extra delicious touches to really make your cheeseboard stand out.
The stars of the show
Boxing Day Chutney – pair with Bath Blue Cheese
Once crowned the Supreme Champion at the World Cheese Awards, Bath Blue from the Bath Soft Cheese Company is a gorgeously rich, buttery blue cheese that’s perfect for a little festive indulgence. It pairs beautifully with the sweetness of the pears in our bestselling Pear, Apple & Cider Chutney, and with the apple in our seasonal favourite, Boxing Day Chutney.
Sweet Chilli Jam – pair with Driftwood Goat Cheese
A multi-award-winning goat cheese from White Lake Farm in Somerset, this gorgeously soft, creamy cheese makes for a fabulously indulgent combination with our bright and zingy Sweet Chilli Jam, or if you like things really spicy, with our bestselling Pineapple Habanero Relish.
Balsamic Onion Relish – pair with Godminster’s Vintage Organic Cheddar
Any Westcountry cheeseboard worth its salt must feature a good cheddar, and this is a properly mature, tangy cheddar that’s bursting with flavour. Our sweet and sharp Balsamic Onion Relish makes the perfect partner for such a bold and feisty local cheese, or try Mr Smyth’s Chutney – dark and handsome like its namesake, it’s a brilliant all-rounder.
Don’t forget the trimmings
We absolutely love The Fine Cheese Co’s range of delicious crackers – we’d highly recommend the Bath Squares, their version of the famous Bath Oliver Biscuits, for a traditional touch, but their Rosemary & Extra Virgin Olive Oil Crackers are also fabulous, especially with the Driftwood Goat Cheese mentioned above.
To wash it all down, we’d suggest the brilliant Honey’s Cider, or perhaps a drop of Sloe Gin from Friary Drinks – alternatively, if you fancy a bottle of wine, pay a visit to Wolf Wines in Bath’s Green Park Station for some excellent recommendations.
Take it up a notch
Christmas Chutney and In A Pickle Lily – pair with charcuterie and cold meats
Whether it’s a Christmas ham, a charcuterie selection or those irresistible cold turkey leftovers, cold meats deserve their own chutneys! Our award-winning In A Pickle Lily was made for the cold table, combining the traditional flavours of a mild mustard piccalilli with a gorgeously crunchy texture. Meanwhile, our Christmas Chutney, with cranberries and festive spices, is essential to serve with your turkey, but also makes a fantastic partner for Christmas ham or even a really good pork pie.
